When I See Me FAQ

Our goal is for every attending child to leave with a book of their choice from participating authors. They’ll receive an official WISM voucher at the Welcome Table and give it to you in exchange for an autographed book free-of-charge. At the end of the event, tally your vouchers and submit them to the designated WISM volunteer. Within a week, you will be compensated $10 for every voucher submitted via Cashapp or Paypal (Payments by check incur a $5 processing fee). The vouchers will be tallied to determine the top three most-requested authors who will be recognized via email and social media.

No. Our intention is to encourage children to read by GIFTING them with a BOOK of their choice. We have been diligently working to generate funds to purchase books from you. Vouchers are to be redeemed for one of your books at no cost to the family, not as a purchase discount or for merchandise other than books.

Yes, you can sell your books. ABIEB is only for attending children. Since educators, grandparents, and other guests attend the book fair looking for resources and gifts, you can sell your books to them. As a matter of fact, children who exchanged their ABIEB voucher left with multiple books purchased by their guardians.

Absolutely as long as it aligns with the theme of the book fair: promotes literacy, features BIPOC characters, and child-friendly.

We are intentional about boosting the confidence of children of color by featuring books with characters that look like them. Books that do not have Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) characters will not be accepted. We invite you to donate monies to our book giveaway (A Book in Every Bag), spread the word, and experience the book fair in person.

No. Our goal is to give children access to authors of books that feature characters that look like them for encouragement and inspiration.

No. Only one author per table is allowed. Your fellow author is more than welcome to invest in a table.

Absolutely. Your table comes with two chairs. Feel free to bring someone to assist you with your books and merchandise.

Upon registration, we work to promote your attendance with custom infographics, social shares, and more. As a result, we do not offer refunds. If you are unable to attend this year and provide a 30-day notice, we will gladly transfer half of your registration to next year.

Registered authors are given the opportunity to be a panelist in the welcome email. To broadcast your expertise and encourage aspiring authors to attend the workshops, you'll be included in an exclusive eblast, listed on the program book, and displayed on the overhead screen throughout the day.

Yes! We have two promotional options to get your books in front of children, educators, and advocates. 1. An ad in the full-color program book that will be distributed to guests, shared on social media, and archived online. 2. You can include 100 promotional items in the WISM bags given to little ones.
